And this proves what exactly...?

Although I'm a Chris Huhne supporter in the leadership election, this has to be one of the silliest campaign postings there's been on behalf of either candidate. Doing a map showing that Huhne apparently has nationwide appeal won't make anyone vote for him. Chris's campaign would have to have gone seriously awry for that not to be the case. And I'm sure that a similar map could be produced for Clegg's campaign. I know it's near the end of the campaign, chaps, but try and keep up the standards.

I'm starting to think the whole Lib Dem blogosphere got out of bed the wrong side! It's just a bit of web 2.0 fun

PS Does this mean I can stick a pin in Inverness?

But what was the point? If you had half an hour to spare, would it not have been better used in doing a bit of phone canvassing for Chris to convince a few late voters?

The point is to address the same factor that Lib Dems across the country contend with - "people will vote for us if they think we can win", I've taken that principle and applied it to Chris.

As for canvassing, it may be a fair question, but I hate canvassing, so I choose to donate my web 'skills' to the party instead.

The "if you're not canvassing or delivering Focus then you're not doing anything of worth" attitude that some activists have is very blinkered in my view.

Almost as silly as this much-loved classic...

BTW, would Google help me locate Tory party voters and members in the Highlands? I seem to have mislaid them at some point.

...and I hear a lot of people having a gripe about "Team Huhne" doing this, that and the other. "LibDems4Chris" is, so far as I am aware, not part of "Team Huhne" but a bunch of individuals, including myself, who decided it would be a good thing to have a site for those who supported Chris to post nice things about him on. I don't believe we were asked (unlike last time's "Bloggers for Chris") by the campaign to do it, were we? So, the members of that site are getting excited - and why not, someone needs to be getting excited about this damned leadership race! But that's all it is.

Intriguingly the map has a huge gap in Hampshire. Now what does that tell?

That there's no Facebook network for Hampshire, and the major university is Portsmouth, which is why there are a couple of pins in Portsmouth. Which you'd know if you read the blog post. *rolls eyes*

Yikes, and before I forget, Southampton University too!

Or perhaps that should be Southampton University, and Portsmouth too.

I'm not going anywhere near that one :)

Perhaps one of the reasons there is a gap where I live in Hampshire is that here in the Eastleigh constituency we know a little more about Chris Huhne than the rest of the country! Can you imagine the party resources that would have to be put into fighting to ensure that our leader (if it were Huhne) would not lose his seat at the next General Election, (Until a few years ago this used to be a safe Tory seat and Chris has a wafer-thin majority of 563.) That's one of the many reasons I voted for Nick.

The only thing the map showed me was that he has no supporters in Norfolk !

Rob: Feel free to stick a pin in Inverness if you think it'll do Chris any good whatsoever. I have my doubts.
Chris Almighty: From what I know of the local party in Eastleigh, I doubt very much that they'll be looking for additional resources to keep Chris's seat. Last time Chris was a newcomer, replacing a well-known and well-liked member. The Tories ran a very strong campaign against him and poured loads of money into beating Chris, with a candidate who had fought the seat before. Since then, from what I hear Chris has been digging himself in very well and I am not in any way worried that we will lose Eastleigh.
